作家コメント
岩手を初め、東北の一部には「欲に負けて魚（または赤い魚）を食べてしまったことにより際限なく喉が渇きやがて竜や大蛇に変化してしまう」という伝説がいくつか残されています。私が幼い頃からずっと大好きで通い続けている、秋田県の田沢湖、そしてそこに住むとされる辰子姫の伝説にもそのような説話があります。彼女は今、許されているのでしょうか。辰子姫の姿を見る度に切ない気持ちになってしまうのですが、美しい彼女に会いたくて、あの青い澄んだ湖に足が向いてしまいます。

ディレクターコメント
岩手県は「民話の里」とも呼ばれるほど多くの民間信仰・伝承等の古い言い伝えを残す土地だ。幼少期を岩手県で過ごした古原も、一緒に暮らしていた祖父母から多くの物語を伝え聞いていたという。
古原の作品には、地域の伝承・信仰に加え、自身が体験した出来事の記憶が入り混じっている。何かを見た、という曖昧な記憶を元に紡がれる、もしかしたらあれは、という願いの糸のようなもの。大切な人を亡くした経験から、古原はこの世とあの世の間で、どこかあたたかなそれを捜しているのかもしれない。

Artist Comment
In parts of the Tohoku region, including Iwate Prefecture, there are several legends about people who, overcome by greed, eat fish (or red fish), which causes them to become endlessly thirsty and eventually turn into dragons or giant snakes. There is such a legend about Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture, which I have loved and visited since I was a child, and about Princess Tatsuko, who is said to live there. Is she now forgiven? Whenever I think about Princess Tatsuko, I feel sad, but I keep coming back to that clear blue lake to see her beautiful face.

Gallery Commentary
Iwate Prefecture, also known as the "Home of Folktales," is a land that retains many folk beliefs and legends. Kohara, who spent the childhood there, also heard many stories passed down from her grandparents.
Kohara’s artworks are a mixture of local folklore and beliefs, as well as memories of events she experienced. The artworks created from vague memories of what she saw, and they are like a thread of wishes for what might have been.
Having experienced the loss of a loved one, Kohara is searching for something warm between this world and the next.
