作家コメント
昔、岩手県遠野市に住む知人に「魂呼ばい」という儀式の話を聞いたことがあります。この「魂呼ばい」についての話は、調べると諸説あるようですが、私が知人から聞いたのはこのような話でした。
　「“魂呼ばい”っていうの、聞いたことある？私も詳しいことは忘れちゃったんだけどね。大好きな人が亡くなっちゃったら、家の高い所に登って旗を振って名前を呼ぶんだって。
そうしたら、その人帰ってくるって。」
お酒の席で、ほろ酔いで聞いた彼女の話は、少し恐ろしく、悲しく。
もし私であれば、きっと幼い頃に亡くなった父の名を呼ぶのだろうと…そんな気がします。
 
ディレクターコメント
岩手県は「民話の里」とも呼ばれるほど民間信仰・伝承等の古い言い伝えが残る地だ。幼少期を岩手県で過ごした古原は、一緒に暮らしていた祖父母から多くの伝承を伝え聞いていたという。古原は、不可思議で、魅力的で、そして時に悲しい歴史を伝えていた伝承を基に、自身の思い出や体験が交じり合った「夢の中」のような世界を作品に落とし込んでいる。
彼女の故郷が伝えてきた歴史や物語と、鮮やかな色彩が引き出す幻想的な画面に込められた古原の願いを作品からひも解くのもおもしろい。

Artist Comment
I once heard a story about a ritual called 'Tamayobai,' Soul Calling, from an acquaintance who lives in Tono, Iwate Prefecture. There are some theories about it, but what I heard from my acquaintance was something like this.
"Have you ever heard of a ceremony called 'Soul Calling'? When someone you love dies, go up to a high place in your house, wave a flag, and call out their name.
Then they would come back."
Her story, told in a tipsy mood over drinks, was frightening and sad.
If it were me, I would probably call out my father's name, who died when I was very young. I feel like that.
 
Gallery Commentary
Iwate Prefecture is known as the "home of folktales," where old legends of folk beliefs and traditions remain. Having spent her childhood in Iwate Prefecture, Kohara heard many legends from his grandparents.
Based on the mysterious, fascinating, and sometimes sad history of folklore, Kohara has created a "dream-like" world in her works that are a mixture of her own memories and experiences.
It is interesting to unravel the history and stories of her hometown and the wishes of Kohara in the fantastic paintings with vivid colors.
