ディレクターコメント
せっせと土を食べて黙々と地中を進むミミズ。私達が見えないところで彼らは土壌を潤し、他の命を支えている。影の存在としてこの世界の土台を作るミミズはただ土を食むという目的だけをもって仕事をこなしている。その一生の哲学について思いを馳せるとき、私達の足の下で活動をする彼らのとてつもないエネルギーを感じる。
本作の土のように見える部分は絵具でできており、木製パネルの土台が有るため、そのまま壁に掛けて展示することができる。
人間の周囲の生き物と人間の関係を主なモチーフとして、シルクスクリーンやドローイング作品を制作している市川。ユーモアに富んだ作品は単なる風刺画ではなく、現代に生きる我々人間の矛盾や滑稽さがある種の慈しみを持って描きだされている。人間に翻弄される生き物たちに対して生まれる奇妙な笑いとすこしの罪悪感、そしてそこに確かにある愛情。メディアとして用いられた版画に隠されたメッセージを読み解くのも面白い。

Gallery Commentary
Earthworms move silently through the ground, eating the soil impatiently. They enrich the soil and support other life even if nobody sees them, and this is rarely admired. As shadowy beings, the earthworms that build the foundations of this world do their work with the sole purpose of feeding on the soil. When we contemplate their life-long philosophy, we feel their tremendous energy as they work beneath our feet.
The earth-like parts of this work are made of paint and have a wooden panel base, so they can be hung on the wall as they are.
Ichikawa Shiori is an artist who creates silkscreen and drawing works using the relationship between humans and the creatures around us as her main motif. Her humorous works are not mere caricatures but rather depict the contradictions and ridiculousness of our modern life with a kind of compassion. The strange laughter, a little bit of guilt, and a particular love for the creatures at the mercy of humans. It is interesting to decipher the messages hidden in the prints used as a medium.
